SIA offers a free aviation ground school for middle school, high school and college students.

The onsite classes for the course will be held at the Baraboo-Dells airport at Spring City Aviation.
The online course is available for free to anyone in the USA interested in getting their FAA pilots license or wanting to setup their own classes.
The SIA Foundation (Students in Aviation) is a non-profit 501c3 charitable organization.
Who is the class for?
Middle school, high school and college age students who will be turning 14 or older before March 1st, 2025.
Adults are welcome to attend in-person IF we have less than 25 students attending in person. Adults can always watch and interact on the live streams.
All students can attend virtually through our streaming site. If you attend the live stream, you will also be able to interact with the instructor.
Is there any cost?
It’s absolutely free for students 14-19. Donations are always welcome though. Adults are $150 (all proceeds go back to fund SIA)
How do I register for the classes?
Go to sia.0echo.com (from a desktop computer, mobile devices will not work at the moment)
Click on Log in
Click on Create new account
Enter all of the information MAKE SURE you select “In-Person” in the Status field if you plan to attend in-person.
Enter course enrollment key when prompted: SIA2025PPKC

What materials will I need?
Pen and a notebook. We will provide you with all of the printed materials, an E6B computer and plotter if you are attending in-person. All in-person and online students will need a home computer or access to a computer with internet. The training material can only be viewed on desktop/laptop computers, no tablet or smartphone access currently available.
When do the classes start?
Saturday, March 1st 2025 at 8:30am (this will be an open house event for parents and interested parties)
When do the classes end?
Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 (this may be extended if needed)
What time does the class start and how does it run?
8:30am-11:30am on Saturdays (3 hours)
Is there a registration deadline date?
Yes, for in-person students, Wednesday, February 26th, 2025
If you are attending online/virtually (stream) there is no deadline since you can watch the classroom videos anytime.
Where are the classes held?
Spring City Aviation at the Baraboo-Dells Airport in the main hangar just south of Ho-Chunk Casino on County Rd BD, Baraboo, WI
Directions to the SIA office:
Turn into Baraboo-Dells Airport (just south of Ho Chunk Casino on County Rd BD, Baraboo, WI) and drive straight in to the first parking lot.
Park in the first parking area upon entry; this is the lot closest to the road (Do not park in the spots directly in front of the office)
Do not drive on any taxiways.
What will I be required to do?
Every student is different, but for most students you will be required to study 1-3 hours outside of class per week and take the quiz for the lesson you attended before you can view the next lesson.
What will I learn?
You will learn about the exciting and high paying careers available in aviation and how to pass the FAA Written Exam for earning your pilot’s license. A complete list of topics covered is available once you register for the classes.
What will I do in the classes?
The classes will follow the online course materials you will register for and fly a state of the art 180-degree flight simulator. You will also take a flight in a real aircraft. The classes are hands-on so we will be visiting several different types of aircraft and businesses on the field. We occasionally have guest speakers, e.g. Air Traffic Controllers, Airline Transport Pilots, Flight Attendants and FAA officials. Most of your time will be spent learning about all the facets of general aviation. You will also be registered as a EAA Young Eagle if you are eligible and have access to Sportys Private Pilot Online course free of charge.
What will I achieve when the class is done?
You will receive your student pilot’s certificate and an endorsement to take your FAA Knowledge Written Exam after you have successfully passed the course.
What will I fly my demo flight in?
A Piper Twin Comanche, Cessna 150 or an Aeronca Chief
Is there a limit to the number of students for the class?
Yes, we currently have room for 25 in-person students for the classes held at the Baraboo-Dells airport. There is no limit to the number of online/virtual students however.
Can I take the class if I’ve already taken a previous class?
Yes!
What if I miss a class?
You can watch the classroom video of the class you missed, if you have questions, you can contact the instructor.
Will the class be available live online?
Yes, through Google Meet. Additionally, students will have access to the online course material with hundreds of documents, instructional videos and quizzes at any time.

Are scholarships available for the flight portion of my training?
Yes, several scholarships are available for those who are ages 16-19. Please contact us for more information.

Joe is a Certified Flight Instructor, Advanced Ground Instructor, Commercial Multi-Engine IFR Pilot with over 2000 hours of flight time.
